The L Word unabashedly and unapologetically portrayed the lives and loves of a group of lady-loving gal pals living in Los Angeles. It pulled no punches, minced no words and included men only when strictly necessary.
It was a world in which characters were gay until proven straight. Sapphic vibes were the standard and it was a kind of sanctuary for an audience unaccustomed to seeing themselves represented in mainstream media. Together, they make up this rich and deep and beautiful—if frequently frustrating and occasionally downright bizarre—world of The L Word.
